Thank you for your interest in becoming a cycle buddy helper. We want to encourage more people to cycle to their local destinations but we know from the national attitudes survey that over 60% of respondents consider cycling is dangerous. Whereas the reality, when you look at the statistics the casulty rate for cyclists is 1 for every 200,000 miles travelled, the fataltity rate is higher for pedestrians than cyclists but nobody believes that walking is actually dangerous.
As a Cycle Buddy helper you will be giving confidence to somebody who can cycle but just lacks the confidence to cycle on the road. Cycling brings many benefits including;
- Better health meaning less load on the NHS
- Less pollution so helping the fight against climate change
- Less congestion helping those that need to drive reach their destination sooner.
- Better well-being meaning more chance of talking to neighbours and improving mental health.
As a cycle buddy helper you will receive training so that we can deliver a consistent experience to our cycle buddies and also to help you feel part of the team helping people to get on their bikes.
